Known for classics such as “A Change Gon Come” and “You Send Me” Sam Cooke is widely considered a soul legend. This week, the singer who has made a home in the hearts of generations of music lovers, will be honored in the city he lived in for decades.

The City of Chicago has announced they will be honoring Sam Cooke by renaming a street in his honor.

According to NBC Chicago:

City officials will rename a section of 36th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue “Sam Cooke Way” during a Saturday afternoon ceremony. Cooke once lived near the street location in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood.

Cooke sang chart topping hit songs during the 1950s and 1960s like “You Send Me,” ”Wonderful World” and “Twistin’ the Night Away.” He’s in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Local officials and members of Cooke’s family are expected to attend the event, which will be presided over by Chicago Blues Museum founder Gregg Parker.
